Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

We had a great day serving on Saturday 5-14-16.  It has been raining here for what seems like WEEKS, but saturday morning the sun was shining! The day started off at Chancellor Baptist Church with a nice breakfast prepared by the men’s ministry. After breakfast we organized the volunteers into teams and headed out to work for 3 different families.

Project 1 was for Mr. and Mrs. L in Spotsylvania county. Mr. L is disabled and requires a motorized wheelchair to get around. So they needed some help with some home maintenance items. Our volunteers used 5.5 gallons of paint, 80 pounds of concrete mix, 3 roller pads, two disposable paint brushes,  4 gallons of 12.5% bleach and two gallons of Jomax house wash. Cleaned the house siding,  painted the addition to the garage, painted the garage addition metal roof, the metal shed roof, and the back porch metal roof.  We painting the porch trim and the man – door of the garage.  We moved the wood pile and removed a lot of trash and an old trailer.  Even jacked up a building that had settled, and poured concrete under the post.

Project 2 was the start of our work for Ms. J in Caroline County. You may remember the pictures we’ve shared of Ms. J’s bathroom that is falling apart. We were able to do some general cleanup around the house as well as do a more detailed assesment of the crawl space to determine the extent of damage. It looks like we’ll have to gut the entire bathroom, remove and replace 5 or 6 floor joists, then new subfloor, toilet, tub, vanity/sink, drywall and tile floor. This is an ongoing project involving our volunteers, Caroline county as well as several sub-contractors. We’ll do our best to keep you posted on the progress.

Project 3 was for Mr. and Mrs. D in Spotsylvania. The sewer line between their trailer and the septic tank was damaged and causing waste to back up in the home. Our volunteers dug up the line and located the problem. There was a hole in the pipe and a section that was too low. We were able to cut out the bad section and correct the grade. We also added a cleanout to allow easier access for future issues.
